Understanding ITBS Test Form Variations and Norm Comparisons

Learn how differences between ITBS test forms (A–G) may impact scores. This article explores whether some forms are easier, how to track content changes, and ways to compare current and past norms.

Understanding ITBS Test Forms and Norm Comparisons

The ITBS test has different forms, labeled A through G, and each form is based on different testing standards and norms. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Form A vs. Form G: These two forms cannot be directly compared because they use different norms. Form A used norms from 2000 and 2005, while Form G follows newer standards and is more challenging.
  • Norms Over Time: The test norms have changed over the years—getting progressively harder from 2000 to 2017. This means student performance has improved over time, making later test forms more rigorous.
  • Updated Content: Forms E, F, and G have been revised to match new educational standards like NCLB, CCSS, and NGSS. Form G was designed around 2015–2016 and released in 2018, while Form A was created in the late 1990s and released in 2000.
  • Changes in Test Structure: When Forms E and F were introduced, they brought updates to subtests and scoring. Form G built on these changes even further.

Since ITBS norms do not overlap between different test forms, direct score comparisons between them are not possible.
