Both the Iowa and CogAT Assessments allow accommodations and modifications based on different circumstances. Some of those include Read Aloud, Repeated Directions, Extended Time, Off-Level Testing, and ELL modifications.
Iowa Assessments Accommodations Need-to-Knows

Other accommodations noted in a student’s IEP but not listed in the Appendix may also be used. However, they should be used only if doing so will not alter the nature of the achievement that the test is intended to measure.

CogAT Assessments Accommodations Need-to-Knows
- Testing accommodations should not change the kinds of abilities being measured; they should change how those abilities are measured. If chosen appropriately, an accommodation will provide neither too much nor too little help to the student who receives it.
- The only modification permitted at Levels 5/6–8 of CogAT allows administration of the Alternative Verbal (ALT-V) format, which omits the Sentence Completion test. Students who are given this modification receive an Alternative Verbal Battery score based on two Verbal subtests instead of three.
