Chromebook App Access Options
Please review the options below and follow the recommended path for your organization.
Option 1: Kiosk Mode (Managed Chromebooks)
In kiosk mode, the Riverside app appears in the app launcher on the Chromebook login screen. Students launch it without logging into the device first. No device login is required.

What students see |
The DataManager app appears in the launcher on the Chromebook login screen. Students select it to launch and no device login is required. |
|
Who sets this up |
Your district IT administrator via the Google Admin Console. |
|
Key requirements |
Both the PWA and the ITS Secure Testing Chrome extension must be installed. If either is missing, the test will not run. The app must be installed specifically as a kiosk app. If it runs outside of kiosk mode, the test will not launch. |
Setup
Please share the Kiosk Deployment Guide with your IT administrator.
Before Testing: Test Coordinator Checklist
- Confirm the app appears in the app launcher on the Chromebook login screen on student devices.
- Launch the app on a few devices to verify successful installation.
- Confirm students can open the app from the login screen without logging into the Chromebook.
Troubleshooting:
- The test won't launch. The PWA must be installed as a kiosk app. If it was set up outside of kiosk mode, the test will not start. Contact your IT administrator to verify the installation type.
- The app isn't showing up on devices. Students only see apps approved for their organizational unit. Confirm with your IT administrator that the device is assigned to the correct unit.
Option 2: Non-Kiosk Mode (Managed Chromebooks)
In non-kiosk mode, students log into the Chromebook with their device credentials first, then open the Riverside app.

Before Testing: Test Coordinator Checklist
- Confirm the app appears on student devices after they log into the Chromebook.
- Launch the app on a few devices to verify successful installation. Once launched, the app will remain as the only window available until it is closed.
- Confirm students can open and launch the app successfully after logging in.
Troubleshooting:
- The app isn't showing up after login. Students only see apps approved for their organizational unit. Confirm with your IT administrator that the device is in the correct unit and that both the PWA and the Chrome extension have been force-installed.
- The test won't launch. Verify with your IT administrator that the ITS Secure Testing Chrome extension is installed alongside the PWA. Both are required.
Option 3: Non-Managed Chromebooks
For districts using Chromebooks that are not managed through the Google Admin Console, two options are available. Contact Riverside Support if you are unsure which is right for your setup.
- Legacy Chrome App:
- Search for the Riverside DataManager Chrome app using App ID: gngadipbljmmcgcjjflidckpbgebnhod (or click here).
- Select the appropriate group or organizational unit.
- Under the Installation Policy, choose Force Install or Force Install + pin to ChromeOS taskbar.
- Save changes.
