Ability profiles and differential instructions
Ability Profiles provide classroom teachers and school principals with ways of understanding students' cognitive development and with methods of instruction that might not have been considered previously.
The ABILITY PROFILE DISTRIBUTION table is available to building-level users any time after they run a cut score report.
The table is available to class-level users whenever they open the CogAT dashboard.
To view Ability Profiles and Differentiated Instruction Opportunities:
1. Open the CogAT dashboard.
2. If you are a building-level user and do not see the ABILITY PROFILE DISTRIBUTION table, run a cut score filter search.
An ABILITY PROFILE DISTRIBUTION table opens below your IDENTIFIED STUDENTS BY CLASS cut score table. (The example below shows the second page of 26 total teaching approaches.)
3. Select the profile item in the Ability Profile column to open a description of that profile and suggestions for instruction.
The Interactive Ability Profile Interpretation System opens in a separate tab or window.
You can change any of the drop-down values if you have additional information for the same student or a different student.
4. (Optional): To first find students who match one of the profiles, click the number in the Number of Students column of the ABILITY PROFILE DISTRIBUTION table.
Only those students appear in the Student Roster section at the bottom of the page.
5. Click a student's name.
The Student Detail modal opens. The last entry contains the student's Ability Profile code.
6. Click the Ability Profile code.
7. The Interactive Ability Profile Interpretation System opens in a separate tab or window. Any of the scores can be adjusted using the drop-down menus.
