Excellence in Identification Using Multiple Measures for Equity

In this session, Drs. Lakin, Dunbar, and Welch will highlight the value of using achievement measures in addition to ability as a best practice in identification for Gifted and Talented programs. Among topics discussed will be types of achievement data that are appropriate to measure high-performing students, the value of vertical scaling and normative comparisons, and how to effectively combine achievement and ability scores to guide student placement.

Maximizing Equitable Identification While Minimizing Time and Resources

This session offers suggestions and tools for greater equity and efficiency in your identification process. Universal Screening has been shown to be a key factor in enabling equity. Our presenters discuss ways to streamline your screening process, including how to use scores from multi-dimensional assessments singly and in combination. Language supports for English Learners will be presented as a tool for creating greater equity. Tips for working with your assessment data are provided throughout.

Identifying and Serving Students from Low Income Households

With proper provisions, schools can be a great equalizer in the development of talent for students of poverty. But what are these provisions? In this panel discussion, experts share effective identification practices, curriculum/instructional strategies, extra-curricular services, confounding issues with race/ethnicity, community/family involvement and other considerations for identifying and serving gifted students from poverty.
