About the Session:
The relationship between language and cognition is reciprocal. These abilities, along with academic skills, contribute to an individual’s intellectual development. The Woodcock-Munoz Language Survey III (WMLS-III) assesses cognitive academic language proficiency (CALP), which indicates more advanced language skills. This session will focus on maximizing the information obtained from this tool and demonstrate how it can be used more effectively to determine the presence of a specific learning disability.
Learning Objectives:
The learner will:
- Understand the relation between language and cognition
- Understand the role language plays in the acquisition of academic skills
- Define and distinguish the characteristics of intellectual development
- Maximize the information obtained from the Woodcock-Munoz Language Survey III as it applies to intellectual development.
