Hear From Your Peers: Incorporating the WMLS III into an MTSS System to Support English Learners

About the Session:
Language learners should receive appropriate support. In this session, the educators of the Hall County Schools, Gainesville, GA, introduce their newly crafted infrastructure for providing language-specific assistance to these learners. Join them as they walk through the process of qualifying English language learners for screening using the WMLS, coaching ESOL/MTSS teams, and collaborating with ESOL teachers within the district. They will also cover the interventions and progress monitoring that they offer through their "LAP: Language Acquisition Path."

Mindy Watkins
- 27th year as an educator(4th Year in Hall County)
- Career History: Homeroom Teacher, Interventionist, Assistant Principal
- (Current Role) RTI District Lead- Serving as the Coordinator for RTI for all 37 schools K-12.
Mandi O’Mara
- 19th year as an educator (16th year in Hall County)
- Homeroom teacher for 13 years in Grades K-5, Gifted, ESOL, and Virtual at Tadmore Elementary in the HCSD.
- (Current role) ESOL Professional Learning Specialist, K-12, in which I provide professional learning to teachers on best practices for supporting our EL students in all 37 schools.
Matt Yeary
- 12th year as an educator (All 12 in Hall County!)
- Homeroom Teacher for seven years, EIP teacher, ESOL, Content Specialist (Math)/Instructional Coach
- (Current Role) MTSS Tier 2 Coach- Serving K-5 as a Bilingual Diagnostician for WMLS, Language Acquisition Path (LAP) Coach for Grades K-5, RTI data and infrastructure support.
