WJ V Nonverbal: Assessment, Subscription, Administration, and Reporting Guide
The Woodcock-Johnson V Nonverbal (WJ V NV) is a fully nonverbal cognitive assessment designed for individuals whose language abilities may affect their performance on traditional cognitive tests.
WJ V Nonverbal uses seven tests from the WJ V Cognitive battery and integrates directly into Riverside Score. No separate platform or login is required.
Important: Although the Nonverbal tests are part of the WJ V system, access to dedicated Nonverbal reporting depends on your organization's subscription model.
What Is the WJ V Nonverbal Assessment?
WJ V Nonverbal assesses cognitive abilities without requiring spoken directions or verbal responses. It may be especially useful when evaluating English Learners, individuals with speech or hearing impairments, or students whose language abilities may interfere with demonstrating their cognitive strengths.
The assessment includes the following seven tests:
- Matrices
- Analysis-Synthesis
- Block Rotation
- Spatial Relations
- Number-Pattern Matching
- Letter-Pattern Matching
- Visual Working Memory
These tests assess abilities across four CHC domains: fluid reasoning (Gf), visual processing (Gv), working memory (Gwm), and cognitive processing speed (Gs). WJ V Nonverbal can be used as part of a broader cognitive evaluation or when a fully nonverbal assessment is appropriate for the examinee.
How Do I Access WJ V Nonverbal in Riverside Score?
WJ V Nonverbal is integrated into Riverside Score, so no separate login or platform is required.
To locate and select a Nonverbal assessment:
- Sign in to your WJ V Riverside Score account.
- Navigate to Test Sets then Create New Test Set.
- Select the Clusters tab.
- Scroll down to Nonverbal Tests of Cognitive Abilities.
- Expand Nonverbal Cognitive Ability Clusters.
- Select the checkbox next to the Nonverbal Index or cluster you wish to administer.

The following selections are available:
| Nonverbal Index or Cluster | Estimated Administration Time |
|---|---|
| Nonverbal Cognitive Ability Index | 45 minutes |
| Nonverbal Fluid Reasoning (Gf) | 15 minutes |
| Nonverbal Cognitive Processing Speed (Gs) | 8 minutes |
| Nonverbal Visual Processing (Gv) | 14 minutes |
Once you have selected your desired assessment, save your test set and proceed with the administration process.
Important: Access to individual Nonverbal tests does not automatically confirm that your subscription includes dedicated Nonverbal Index reporting. Confirm that your organization has the appropriate Nonverbal access before administering an assessment if you need the Nonverbal Cognitive Ability Index.
How Is WJ V Nonverbal Purchased?
WJ V Nonverbal access is handled differently depending on your organization's subscription model.
| Subscription Model | Nonverbal Access and Pricing |
|---|---|
| WJ V Unlimited – School and District | Nonverbal Cognitive reporting is not included in the base subscription. A separate add-on is available for $0.10 per enrolled student. |
| WJ V Subtest Subscription | There is no additional Nonverbal Cognitive add-on charge. General subtest credits are purchased at $2.60 per credit and can be used to select the Nonverbal Cog option in Riverside Score. |
Customers using the Unlimited model should confirm that their organization has purchased the Nonverbal add-on before relying on dedicated Nonverbal reporting.
Customers using the Subtest Subscription model should verify that they have sufficient credits for their planned assessments.
If you are unsure which subscription model your organization uses or whether Nonverbal access is enabled, please contact Riverside Insights Support for assistance.
What Scores and Reports Are Available?
WJ V Nonverbal provides a Nonverbal Cognitive Ability Index along with three Nonverbal cognitive ability clusters when the required tests have been administered.
| Nonverbal Score | Required Tests |
|---|---|
| Nonverbal Cognitive Ability Index | All seven Nonverbal tests |
| Nonverbal Fluid Reasoning (Gf) | Matrices and Analysis-Synthesis |
| Nonverbal Visual Processing (Gv) | Block Rotation and Spatial Relations |
| Nonverbal Cognitive Processing Speed (Gs) | Number-Pattern Matching and Letter-Pattern Matching |
What about Working Memory (Gwm)?
Although Visual Working Memory is included in the seven-test Nonverbal Cognitive Ability Index, a separate Nonverbal Working Memory (Gwm) cluster is not listed among the available Nonverbal Cognitive Ability Clusters in Riverside Score.
This means customers should not expect a separate Nonverbal Gwm cluster simply because Visual Working Memory was administered as part of the Nonverbal battery.
For additional information about the required tests and available clusters, visit the WJ V Nonverbal Resource Page, which includes a Selective Testing Table and sample report.
Why Isn't My Nonverbal Index Appearing in My Report?
If all required tests have been completed and your organization has the appropriate access, but the expected Nonverbal Index is still missing, please contact Riverside Insights Support.
To help our team investigate, please provide:
- Your organization's WJ V subscription model, if known.
- The name of the missing Nonverbal Index or cluster.
- Whether the required tests have been completed and submitted.
- A screenshot of your report or available reporting options.
Our Support team can help determine whether the issue is related to subscription access, test completion, or report availability.
