 When Is a Ceiling Level Reached? Overview

The ceiling rule is the same for all BDI-3™ subdomains and all BDI-3™ Screening Test domains. A ceiling is established when the examinee has reached a point where additional items are unlikely to provide meaningful information about their performance.

Ceiling Rule

A ceiling level is reached when the child:

• Scores 0 on three consecutive highest-numbered items administered, or
• Reaches the last item administered in the test.

Once the ceiling has been reached, administration of that subdomain or screening domain is complete.
