Assessment of Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

About the Session:

In this presentation Dr. Goldstein will offer a framework for the assessment of young children (eight years and younger) with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Learn to incorporate multiple sources of data through questionnaires and/or interactive play instruments such as the ADOS 2 and the BDI-3 to evaluate the five core domains of development involving adaptive behavior, social emotional functioning, communication, motor skills and cognitive development. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the practical applications for administering an assessment in a standardized manner in which it is developed.
  • Learn to formulate an assessment battery to determine IDEIA and ADA eligibility for young children with ASD. 
  • Understand the role assessments can serve in the school-based assessment of young children with ASD.
  • Gather data, determine eligibility and formulate vocational goals for young children presenting with ASD and accompanying developmental delays.

Instructor Credentials:

Sam Goldstein, PhD - Sam Goldstein obtained his Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Utah and is licensed as Psychologist and certified School Psychologist in the state of Utah. He is also board certified as Pediatric Neuropsychologist and listed in the Council for the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, an Adjunct Assistant Professor, and co-author.
